Vert AI

In the early 2000’s a 42” plasma TV could cost $5,000 to $10,000. Now, a 55” 4K smart TV costs $250 to $500 with better resolution, lower power consumption, a fraction of the weight, and smarter features.

This is how Vert transformed the license plate camera. We took the commercial-grade automatic license plate recognition (ALPR) system which is traditionally clunky, expensive and required to be bolted onto urban parking enforcement vehicles or tollbooths, supercharged it with modern AI capabilities to improve accuracy and performance, and redefined it to be truly mobile, broadly accessible from any Apple or Android device, and dramatically lowered the price. 

Vert is an AI technology company at our core.  We developed our own AI algorithms and our computer vision systems are engineered here in Silicon Valley by a team of networking, AI & machine learning, and computer vision experts leveraging the most advanced AI innovations and emerging capabilities.

Not all LPR cameras are created equal

Traditional LPR camera hardware equipment

Most frequently seen on municipal parking patrol vehicles or tollbooths, traditional LPR cameras are clunky, requires frequent maintenance, must be bolted onto a dedicated parking patrol vehicle with an integrated computer system, and are prohibitively expensive, ranging upwards of $100K per vehicle, locking out most non-municipal customers. 

Other mobile LPR scanners

The "point-and-click": other mobile LPR scanners on the market operate like a photograph camera—you walk up to a vehicle, take a picture of the license plate, wait a few seconds for the camera to "read" the plate, walk to the next vehicle, scan the plate, wait a few seconds...rinse and repeat vehicle by vehicle. The lag time required for the camera to process the plate often makes manually typing in the license plate a faster choice. In addition, AI server costs required for these types of mobile AI applications often drive up the cost to end customers.

Vert Sentinel ALPR cameras bring powerful license plate recognition to the edge. Each unit is equipped with a dedicated AI chip that processes data locally, enabling real-time tracking of vehicle entry and exit times, cross-referencing plates against permit lists, estimating occupancy, and flagging potential non-payments—all without relying on cloud compute. With built-in LTE connectivity, Sentinel cameras are fully autonomous and ready to deploy wherever coverage is needed.

How Type-S works

The Sentinel Type S delivers the full power of Vert’s ALPR technology—now solar-powered. It matches the capabilities of the standard Sentinel, including edge-based plate recognition, vehicle tracking, permit validation, and non-payment alerts, all with built-in LTE. Designed for sites with no infrastructure, it’s ideal where power trenching is too costly or impractical, but sunlight is readily available. Just mount and deploy.
